There are a number of factors to consider when calculating the running costs of your air conditioner including:
- Size (kW)
Obviously, the larger your air conditioner is, the more energy it will use. However, it is also important to note that whether or not your air conditioner is correctly sized will also affect running costs. If your air conditioner is undersized it will use more energy than a larger, correctly sized unit as it will be running on full capacity for a longer time to cool the area.
- Running Time
The longer you run your air conditioner, the more energy it will use.
- Set Temperature
The temperature that you set your air conditioner to can drastically affect running costs. In fact, every degree lower than 25 degrees celsius can increase the running cost of your air conditioner by around 10%.
- Inverter Technology
An air conditioner with inverter technology will cost less to run as, once the set temperature is reached, less power is used to maintain the temperature.
- Energy Tariff
The energy tariff that you’re connected to determines how much you will pay for your energy and can affect air conditioner running costs. For example, if you’re connected to an off-peak tariff, you will be charged less during certain times of the day.
