Split System Air Conditioning Brisbane

What is Split System Air Conditioning?

Split system air conditioning units are one of the most common types of air conditioners found in Queensland homes. A split system unit is made up of two main components, the indoor unit and the outdoor unit which is why it is called a “split system”. The outdoor unit is installed on the wall of the room that the indoor unit will be installed in. The indoor and outdoor units are connected by a series of electrical wires and thin tubing or “lines”.

Unlike a window unit, this type of system requires professional installation due to the electrical components. This system keeps the hot air outside and the cool air inside by transporting all of the heat to the outdoor unit to cool the room as quickly as possible.

Our team at Advanced Climate Solutions have years of experience with split system air conditioning including installation, servicing, maintenance and repairs. For a free quote on any of our services call 0403 254 272 today.

How does it work?

A split system unit works similarly to most air conditioning units. It is made up of four main components:

  • Compressor
  • Evaporator
  • Condenser
  • Fan

Both the compressor and the condenser are in the outdoor unit with the evaporator and the fan stored in the indoor unit. When a split system air conditioning system is turned on the compressor begins to circulate a refrigerant gas. This pressurises the gas and as the gas is compressed its temperature reduces. Once it has been cooled, the pressurised refrigerant gas is directed toward the condenser. A cooling system inside the condenser removes the remaining heat from the refrigerant. During this process, the high-pressure gas is converted to liquid form.

The cold liquid is then circulated through to the indoor unit’s evaporator. Once the cool liquid is in the evaporator, the fan draws in warm air from the room. As the air flows over the cool refrigerant, the heat in the air is absorbed by the refrigerant. The cool air is then circulated back into the room. Once warmed, the refrigerant is sent back to the compressor in the outdoor unit.

This process is repeated until the thermostat in the indoor unit detects that the room has reached the preset temperature.

The Features and Benefits of Split System Air Conditioning

No Major Installation

Although split system air conditioning units do require professional installation, there is no ductwork involved. This makes the installation of a split system unit quicker and less expensive than a ducted air conditioning unit.

Low Up Front Cost

Split system air conditioning units are cheaper than ducted air conditioning when it comes to purchasing and installing. This means that if you only have one room or a small area that you need to be cooled split system aircon could save you a lot of money.

Another benefit of split system air conditioning is that you can add new units to different rooms of the house gradually. This is a great way to avoid the single large upfront cost of ducted aircon while still eventually cooling the entire house. Advanced Climate Solutions offer quality split system installations at competitive prices. Call 0403 254 272 for your free quote or fill out our contact form today.

Minimal Heat Loss

Unlike ducted air conditioning units, split system units don’t have large ducts or large distances that the cooled air travels through. The reduced distance that the air needs to travel minimises the heat loss of the cooled air before it is circulated back into the room. This in turn can increase energy efficiency and the total time it takes to cool the room.

Quiet Cooling

Split System ac units have an outdoor unit that houses the noisier components of the unit. This means that the noise of the air conditioner in the room being cooled is minimised. This means that there is minimal noise inside while cooling a room with a split system unit.

Multi Split System

Split system air conditioners can have multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit. This is called a multi split system. A multi split system makes it easier to cool two rooms or maintain the cool temperature of a single large room. This can also reduce the cost of cooling two rooms by using a single outdoor unit to do so.

Low Cost Repairs & Replacement

If you are looking to cool your whole home with either split system or ducted air conditioning, repair and replacement costs should be taken into consideration. Multiple split system units will be required to cool an entire house. However, this means that if your aircon needs repairs it will most likely be a single split system unit.

Repairs for a single split system unit are considerably less expensive than ducted air conditioning repairs due to the size of the unit and cost of the parts. This also means that if your air conditioner needs to be replaced, you will only have to replace a single unit rather than the whole-house ducted system.
